  • Emily Wilson

    PUBLISHER / MUSIC-LOVER

Music has been the heartbeat of my life for as long as I can remember. Some of my favorite memories are tied to live shows—the energy, the connection, the way music brings people together.

My playlists span genres, but hip-hop and jazzy R&B hold a special place in my heart. Mac Miller, Big Sean, and Tyler, The Creator are always on repeat, and my Erykah Badu vinyl has gotten countless spins.

My passion for storytelling began early, when I took over my brother’s paper route at eight years old, sneaking peeks at the news before delivering it. Since then, I’ve been blending journalism and music in everything I do.

I earned my BS in Journalism from Boston University, where I focused on the music beat. After graduating, I became a live music photographer. Capturing the magic of music, whether through words, photos, or events, is what I love most.

Global Soundwaves is the next chapter of that passion—a way to celebrate music and the culture around it with the world.

  • Ashley McDonald

    COLUMNIST / PUBLIC RELATIONS

As a lifelong writer and music lover, my career in public relations was inspired by my passion for music. I love live shows, songwriting, and have an appreciation for genres ranging from classic rock and EDM and to reggae — but if you pass me the aux, you can expect to hear lots of Russ, $uicideboy$, Drake, and Young Thug tracks.

I have spent more than five years exploring the world of freelance artist management, mastering project management within agencies centered around serving advocacy-based clients, and the rewards of successful nonprofit campaigns.

  • Robert Kelly

    JOURNALIST / IN-HOUSE ARTIST

Born and raised in California, I’ve always had a deep love and appreciation for music. The Beatles, John Prine, and the Australian surf rock scene are some of my biggest inspirations. I picked up the guitar at the age of 12 and haven’t put it down since.

In high school, I formed a band with my lifelong friend Tyler Schiller, and in 2020, we added two more members and became Twin Fin. We’re currently on tour, and on top of that, I also play solo shows.

When I’m not performing, I’m interning as a journalist. I’m passionate about exploring the intersection of music with storytelling. Being both an artist and a journalist gives me a unique perspective that I’m excited to bring to Global Soundwaves.

    HUMAN BEING

Back when I was 12 years old, I would spend 5-6 hours a night listening to and analyzing the lyrics to tracks from Lupe Fiasco, Eminem, J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Andre 3000, and so many more hip hop artists. Freestyling especially caught my attention as I found out about Wayne Brady on ‘Who’s Line is it Anyway?’ and Lin Manuel Miranda on ‘Freestyle Love Supreme’. I scoured KOTD rap battle videos for the best off-top rebuttal in the session. Today, I lead the content and digital marketing strategy for the great freestyle emcee Harry Mack.

As I studied the greats, the urge to write my own poetry and perform my own music kept growing, so here I am. I love to livestream with my audience and freestyle using words they provide in the chat, as well as record written pieces over a wide variety of instrumentals. I’ve only just started creating on my own accord, and hopefully one of my messages strikes a chord with you.

  • Brandon Byrd

    INTERN JOURNALIST

As I often say, I can’t imagine my life without music. I eat, sleep and breathe it. It’s the first thing I hear every morning and the last thing I hear before bed. Rap, R&B, Jazz and many other genres serve as the backdrop to my everyday life and have been the backdrop to my career as a journalist. Artists like Earl Sweatshirt, JID, Mick Jenkins and so many more have shown me just how powerful great writing can be. I aspire to reach those levels of creativity in my writing.

As I write this bio I’m listening to hip-hop and jazz instrumentals, my go-to soundtrack when I write. J Dilla, Kaytranada and Robert Glasper are just a few of the artists who fill my “study music” playlist.

Since discovering my passion for writing in high school, I have had the opportunity to write about everything from pop culture to music to the news and politics that shape the world around us.

I deepened that passion at Howard University, where I graduated in May 2025 with a bachelor’s degree in Media, Journalism, and Film. My four years there taught me so much, not just about journalism, but about music too. I’m incredibly excited to share my love for music with this community over the next couple of months whether that’s through thoughtful writing, artist spotlights, or conversations about the sounds that move us. I hope to inspire dialogue, curiosity, and connection through every piece I contribute.

    INTERN JOURNALIST

For as long as I can remember, music has been a huge part of my life. Whether through Disney musicals or classic rock tunes that my dad would play, my best memories have a soundtrack. Growing up in Argentina and the U.S. definitely affected my music taste, making my playlists an amalgamation of many different styles and genres. I love so many artists, from Soda Stereo to The Eagles and Bad Bunny to Beyoncé, my heart (and ears) are dispersed all over the world.

I’m currently finishing up at university, where I'm studying Media and Entertainment Management. I’ve gotten to work at live shows and with musical artists, and seeing all the work that goes on behind the scenes has inspired me to dig a little deeper into the music industry. I’m excited to join the Global Soundwaves team, and I can't wait to add my distinctive point of view to this community.
